![]() Carrion played on the varsity baseball team all four years of high school for Ingles as a pitcher and shortstop. For Carrion, baseball is the sport that is his main sport and his favorite. “Play the game against the game, not against the opponent,” was a saying of Coach Jeff Ingles that Carrion says he will always keep with him as he goes through life. Carrion’s favorite memories from playing on the football team was beating the school rival Dixon High School the past two years, with TV crews present. In addition to the prestigious awards and titles, Carrion also received the National Football Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Award. Carrion was named WHS Team Offensive MVP, Sacramento Valley League MVP, named All-League, All-Section, Sacramento Bee All-Metro, All-State. Carrion’s senior year was the capstone of his high school football career. At the end of the season in his junior year, Carrion was named WHS Team Offensive MVP, All-League, All-Section and was an All-State nominee. At the end of the season in Carrion’s sophomore year on the football team he was named All-League. Carrion lettered in football all four years. Carrion, as if he had hands of glue, had only five fumbles with only one being lost during his time on the varsity team. Carrion had 41 touchdowns for a total 246 points, along with six PATs and three conversions, one each year. total of 407 attempted passes, threw for 3,587 passing yards (and set a school record for both) and 2,865 rushing yards, where his name will show third in the school records. Carrion played in 30 games over his three years on the varsity football team. Carrion recalls that Ward would say that being a football player is similar to how you present yourself in life as a husband, father and community member. When Anthony was able to come back to the team, he played the position of wide receiver. The life lesson that Carrion took away from his time with Layne was to, “Fight for your brothers, on and off the field.” In his next three years in high school, Carrion played on the varsity team for Coach Daniel Ward as quarterback, taking over for his brother after Anthony had an injury. In Carrion’s freshman year he played on the junior varsity team for Coach Mark Layne. In the last fall season Carrion took the field with the football team. In July 2019 Carrion was named to the California Small Schools All-State baseball team. This year at the Senior Awards Banquet Carrion was named the Male Senior Athlete of the Year. At the end of December 2017 the Express named Carrion Athlete of the Year. Still, he excelled and set school records in football.
